Founder & Artisan Jeweller

Marketa Garne

Marketa Garne, founder of Booblinka Jewellery, captures the untamed beauty of the ocean in every piece. From her Newquay studio, she transforms sea glass, conflict-free ocean diamonds, and all shades of blue topaz - chosen to reflect the ocean’s depth and light - into luxurious designs. Inspired by the sea’s bubbles and movement, Marketa’s creations blend elegance with sustainability. Registered with the Guild of Jewellery Designers and London Assay Office, her work is a celebration of craftsmanship and the Atlantic’s vibrant spirit.

So happy with my Booblika engagement ring! Marketa melted down my mother-in-law's engagement ring and wedding band to make a stunning new engagement ring. She kept me updated throughout the entire process and even shared videos of her in action. The design is gorgeous, with the diamond set in little bubbles of gold. It's so special to be able breathe new life into this family diamond, giving it a fresh start while preserving its sentiment. Thank you so much Marketa!

Robyn.

So, Marketa...

What piece of jewellery that you’ve made are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of the three rings I made for my final project during my Fine Jewellery Diploma. It was a mini collection inspired by the ocean, featuring Swiss blue topaz, silver, gold, and moissanites. Each ring was unique, but together, they formed a cohesive set.

What makes me so proud is how technical they were - I had only just learned the skills and didn’t have much time to practice. I had to complete them in a short period, and pulling it off felt like such an achievement. Even though I’ve created many more pieces since then - better ones - these rings will always hold a special place in my heart. 😊

Where did you learn to make jewellery?

I started with a hobby evening course at Truro College and loved it so much that I signed up for the same course again to improve my skills. From there, I moved on to an intermediate course and eventually completed both a Silver Jewellery Diploma and a Fine Jewellery Diploma with Jewellers Academy.

Did anyone inspire you to start jewellery making?

I’ve been making beaded jewellery since I was a little girl, but I never imagined it could become my career. Now, there are so many incredible jewellers I admire, and they inspire me to keep growing and improving with every piece I make.

How often do you wish that the jewellery you make for customers was for yourself?

When I first started, I wanted to keep everything I made! Now, it only happens occasionally with certain pieces. But honestly, I get so much more joy from creating jewellery for others. Seeing their reactions, hearing their feedback, and knowing I’ve been a small part of their special moments - that’s what it’s all about. It’s the best feeling ever!

Is there anything you know now, that you wish you did when you first started jewellery making?

Patience and practice are the key. It’s so much better to focus on mastering one skill at a time rather than trying to learn everything at once. When I first started, I wanted to know everything straight away, but I’ve learned it doesn’t work that way. Taking it step by step is far more effective.
